Yes. Yes. [Aug. 22nd, 2006|12:55 pm]

So like the rest of the world (should) I saw Snakes On A Plane, you've probably heard all about it. But I would like to emphasise the fact that you should all go and see this film.

Yes its a terrible film, so terrible that it goes to brilliant. Much like digging through the planet and reaching the other side. Its serious no brainer entertainment, and in a world of thorough uninspirement to get off your ass and head down to the cinema, this is a breath of fresh air.

Best thing to do is see it with a bunch of friends so you can just laugh your ass off, and talk about it for hours afterwards. But do go and see it.

Anyway. I think some sequals should be created. A few ideas I've come up with

Snakes on a Train
Disgruntled ticket collector Samuel L Jackson takes on an entire train of snakes armed only with his ticket clipper.
Or alternatively a giant snake is painted to look like a train, and its stomach is filled with smaller snakes.

Other ideas include
Snakes on a ...
Tandem Bicycle, Mini Cab, Hot Air Balloon, Jet Ski, Ferris Wheel.

Seriously folks. If every mode of transport isn't filled with 500 poisonous snakes I shall be quite disappointed.

Don't Let Him Kill Me [Jul. 8th, 2006|02:15 pm]

So me being the guy I am, I’m going to go and see The Omen. It’s just something I’m contractually obliged to do. Although to be honest I might have my contract reviewed.

Now I don’t know if I was expecting scary, jumpy, freaky … but not funny. I’m not too up on the story, but it seemed very hokey. Example being the terrible CGI impalation of Pete Postlethwaite hurt my brain.

It started out ok. Bit dark, kids screaming and such. Then it just got silly what with Mary Poppins’ evil twin and such a like.

There were a few jumps and such but the kind of jump you know is coming and hate yourself for jumping because of this fact.

There were a few nice unflinching moments that made you wince ever so slightly. But the big scenes had an odour of hilarity, with the biggest audience reaction being laughing at a person getting trounced by a car.

I’m not sure if we’re a bunch of desensitised robots only happy when we can actually see the inner cranium of the victim. But this flick got stuck between a bad horror, and a very bad psychological thriller.

Kids on screen can be scary. But Damien just looked like an insomniac potato that screamed a bit.

Yeah. If you need a horror fix go elsewhere … in fact go elsewhere unless you like over hyped remakes of movies best left alone.

So being the maverick of leisure that I am, I decided to go check out Pirates of the Caribbean 2 - Dead Man's Chest yesterday. I wasn't intending on rushing down to the cinema on the opening day, just happened to be especially bored and in need of some light entertainment.

Now I can't be bothered to do an in depth review with spoiler warnings plugged all over the shop.

I think my main point would be when you relate to a film ... not necessarily "Oh me and Barboza are like clones", but just feel that its got that right mix of everything to make it good old fashioned entertainment. I got that with the first one.

Now I'm not saying the second wasn't entertaining, I found it to be great fun, but I just got the feeling that this one wasn't for me. They toyed with the characters so you weren't sure who's side you were on, which certainly allowed the odd twist and turn, but you couldn't really get behind a cause as they were all so skewed in motivation.

There were plenty of thrills and spills and welcome returns which made it happily trot along, with enough pirate jargon to keep Long John Silver at bay.

I can't quite say how good a film Dead Man's Chest was without the third. As it leaves it so open ended, leaving such an unsatisfying resolution and the mouth watering taste of things to come ... which is kind of the best sort of film making you can do.

So Captain Sparrow and Co. you have me hook, line and sinker, please don't fry me in cheap oil and serve me to some overweight builder in a fish and chip shop a la Matrix Trilogy.

"You're looking skinny like a model with your eyes all painted black
You keep going to the bathroom always say you'll be right back."

So yeah. I haven't updated this thing in a loooong time. I've had plenty of time to reflect, expand my horizons, develop some skills, watch some movies and generally bum around.

I could explain my adequately perfectly sculpted form below, but I want it to get somewhere tangeable first. Just rest assured that I'll try and get myself back together, so expect sketches, bitches and all round ... me.

I'm A Nobody, Get Me Out Of Here. [Apr. 7th, 2006|10:35 am]

So I went to a preview screening of Alien Autopsy the other day, mainly because V for Vendetta wasn't showing, and I'm told its something I should check out.

Now its wasn't a horrible film. Far from it, and it so easily could have been, mainly by casting Ant and Dec as the lead roles. For those that don't know Ant and Dec are kind of the Saturday night "entertainment" show presenters, and have become somewhat of an British institution.

But yeah. In terms of recent British films it doesn't come close to Shaun of the Dead, but they still gave it a good shot.
Based on a true story, it worked with narrative rather than the flurry of turgid special effect filled blockbusters. Which was quite refreshing.

Its not a film I would rush out and buy, but I don't regret at least checking it out.

Stupified By You [Mar. 31st, 2006|11:56 am]

So I've made it my quest to watch every DVD in the house. You know those ones you or someone else owns, but you never actually watch them.
One of these is A Beautiful Mind. I caught the end of it on TV a while back and didn't really appreciate it. But I figured I should give it another go.

I actually quite enjoyed it, it kept me engaged enough, even though I kinda knew what was going to happen in the end.
I do quite like the ol' phychological flicks. Just anything that leads you down the garden path, until you realise you aren't in the garden ... you're in the sea.

Anyhoo. Been rocking out to a bit of Coheed and Cambria. Known of them for a while and heard their praises sung by numerous folk, but only just got round to actually listening to em. They've got a few airy fairy tunes (though with pretty dark lyrics), but they make up for em with some real kickers. Yeah check em out.

Cracking ... Crack [Mar. 29th, 2006|08:52 pm]

So I drew another picture of The Lonliest Zombie. Who knows, something might come of it.

I was pottering around The Video Club's ex-rental bin today and saw Wallace And Gromit - Curse of The Were Rabbit staring at me. Now I knew I had to buy something, mainly because I endured a dank bus journey next to people that smelled like cabbage. So I bought it.

I kinda wished i saw it in the cinema, because after all the hype and the horribly embarissing Oscar speech it left a bit of a stale taste in my mouth. Course I'm not the demographic. This is fr kids and Americans who think everyone in England wears tank tops and live in country mansions.

I dunno, it was almost playing up to the crowd a bit, rather than in the old 30 minute shorts, was genuinely quirky and British, but in a way where I didn't want to tear my face off.

I dunno, it wasn't that bad. But I was kinda disappointed.
Ah well, win some lose some.

Totally Yeah. [Mar. 28th, 2006|05:11 pm]

Wow. Been a while hasn't it.
Yet very little has happened for me. I haven't been in the comic in what feels like forever. But its kinda good in a way as I've got a bit more time to work on my own things.

Been watching ridiculous amounts of DVDs and such alike. I was browsing HMV and picked up some super cheap ones including Fight Club which I'd always intended on owning, as well as Rules of Attraction which I bought on a whim and turned out to be a pretty cool film indeed.

Tried watchin Snuff Box on BBC3 last night. Had the american guy outta Mighty Boosh as well as the Doc Sanchez out of Garth Marenghi. I liked bits of it, but a lot of it just wasn't so good. Especially when Green Wing is on at the same time.

There's loads of things I want to be spending my cash on. But I couldn't resist this little nostagia trip. I mean come on. This was childhood gold. So hopefully that'll arrive tommorow.

I've been writing and sketching bits and pieces. Who knows it may surface some day. Though my motivations taken a bit of a hammering for reasons best known to itself.

So yeah here's a picture of a zombie wondering if its all worth it.

I feel like doing a painting. Maybe I will.

So bit a bit loose on the bitching / blogging. But I am rather busy in other sides to my young life. I am currently studying in a BA of procrastination, as well as top in my "Sit On Your Ass All Day Doing Nothing" class. Basically this comic sums it all up (although replace comics with bitching / blogging and getting emails replaced with ... not).

On that note you may email me if you so desire. stitch@housd.net is the address.

So anyhoo, I watched Blow last night, no its not some back alley vieo I picked up in Soho. Instead its a pretty rad film about the (true) life story of this internationally reknown drug dealer, and how he's set up by the people closest to him. May not sound like much, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. So yeah - Johnny Depp, Penelope Cruz, a kicking soundtrack and a good story. Check it out if you haven't already

Good Times. [Dec. 8th, 2005|05:13 pm]

He shoots, he scores!.
Damn, what a turn of events. Good thing this didn't happen or I would have gone off the deep end.

Woo. The X-Men 3 Trailer is looking sweet. Although I can't help wonder how Kelsey Grammer would suit the action side to Beast, as well as slightly intrigued by the prospect of Vinnie Jones playing Juggernaut.

Looks like they're gonna bombard all the fanboys with the more obscure characters, which will be nice. Though I don't see much sign of Gambit.

Everyone go and buy Batman Begins.
Not only is it a funky film, but all the exrra features is with British people talking. Which is very surreal for such a big budget Hollywood flick.

The funniest is the stunt double talking about having his Weetabix.

Yes. They are the same person.

But do not fret. He's playing a barkeeper in an upcoming Indie thriller called Rise.
Still really weird to think that is what he would look like without the garb.

So yeah, first off. HOUSD has joined a brand new webcomic group by the name of Boxcar Comics, and Ali wanted me to get all you fine folk to sign up at the brand new HOUSD Forum.

So in other news, i just saw Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, which was pretty good. From the film trailer it looked absolute tripe, with Johnny Depp spouting "zany" buzz phrases and walking into what seemed like the camera. But yeah, put in context a lot of it was bearable.

My personal gripe with the film was the Oompa Lumpas. I couldnt really hear the words they were singing, and they didnt really do it for me. I was a big fan of the original book, so i was happy that it did stick quite rigidly, with the exception of the Wonka backstory, but i felt that was artistic liscence.

I dig Tim Burton, and the dark edge to it was prettty enjoyable. If you havent seen it, and its a toss up of this or Fantastic 4, go for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Well I also saw the Fantastic 4 today, compeltely separate from Ali.
(separate = throwing distance for popcorn)

I quite enjoyed it, although i thought a lot of it was quite rushed.
I dug the nip tuck guy as Dr. Doom, although Hornblower as Mr. Fanstastic seemed quite an odd choice, but not necessarily a bad one.

I dunno, a bit too many cheesisms, but thats to be expected from a PG comicbook movie.

Some People Are Always Trying To Iceskate Up Hills [Jul. 13th, 2005|08:25 pm]

I'm thoroughly uninspired at the moment. I can't seem to think of much.
I watched Blade Trinity today. I found it nice and cheap ex-rental, so I thought why not. I dont regret the decision, but i dont revel in it either.

Ive loved Blade ever since it first came out. It was totally dark and creepy with plenty of gore, while Blade was the quiet cool, kickass guy, who might make a little joke here and there. But Trinity seemed like it was trying to do a comedy, with the guy (dont know who) making little "comedy" remarks in between every sentence, and reminded me so much of Jason Lee in Mallrats it was scary ... although Jason Lee would have been cool as the part.

Plus the whole involvement of "the outside world" didnt really do it for me. Blade was a renegade in a higher plane of existence, where he existed under the belly of society, making him vulnerable to police etc, took something away from his character.

Plus the fact that they were completely milking the fact they had Tripple H as one of the vampires, with all the crap wrestling references.
I dunno, it was lower rating, somewhat too sentimental and not dark enough.

... Although Drake was pretty damn evil.
P.S. The ending was a bit confusing. But still worth a looksee.
PPS. The extra features look pretty spiffy, so that might swing it in terms of a DVD purchase.
